The Delta Breeze Schedule

Friday November 8, 2024:

11:00 am - 2:00 pm Meet and Greet at local winery (location will be revealed to pass holders)

  • Join Rags 2 Rhythm for no-host lunch and wine tasting at one of our local Delta wineries to kick off the weekend event
  • Meet the instructors, event organizers, out-of-town guests, and local dancers, maybe even kick up our heels a bit
  • Learn about the actual Delta Breeze and how it adds to the uniqueness of Sacramento-area agriculture, environment, and community

9:00 pm - Midnight, Midtown Stomp weekly Friday Social Dance at Spotlight Ballroom

  • Support our local venue as we dance the night away at Midtown Stomp in West Sacramento
    •  NOTE: Admission to MTS is separate from The Delta Breeze 
    • Join us afterward for a midnight snack and socializing at In-N-Out (780, Ikea Ct., West Sac) till 1:00 am

Saturday November 9, 2024:

10:00 am - 4:00 pm Collegiate Shag Workshop with Amanda Pincock and Ryan Martin at Tango by the River in Old Sacramento

  • 10:00 am - 11:00 am Class 1: Fundamentals for Intermediate Dancers 
    Description: Core mechanics of dancing Shag. How pulse, using the floor, and connection can help you move more like a Shag dancer.
  • 11:15 am - 12:15 pm Class 2: Side by Side Movement 
    Description: Increasing your musicality by adding and dropping movements and playing with the basic footwork pattern in one of Shag's core positions.
  • 12:15 pm - 1:45 pm Lunch
  • 1:45 pm - 2:45 pm Class 3: Playing with Collegiate Kicks 
    Description: Sub-rhythmic moves with kicks, learning how to switch footwork timing to match your partner.
  • 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm Class 4: Independent Footwork Styling and Rhythm 
    Description: Personal expression for leads and follows.

6:00 pm - 7:00 pm ShagBoa Transitions Class with Grace Babbes and Blake Thiessen at the Clara Auditorium in Midtown Sacramento

7:30 pm - 9:00 pm Intro to ShagBoa (Balboa) with Stacey Amaral and Johnny Ochoa at the Clara Auditorium

9:00 pm - Midnight, Social Dance with band West End Stompers at the Clara Auditorium

  • Instructor and Social Jam at end of first Band Set
  • Endurance Competition at beginning of Second Band Set

12:30 am - 2:30 am Late Night Social Dance at Spotlight Ballroom in West Sacramento

Sunday November 10, 2024:

10:00 am - 4:00 pm Balboa Workshop with Jennifer Barnett and Matt Mitchell at Tango by the River in Old Sacramento

  • 10:00 am - 11:00 am Class 1: Once Again from the Top
    Description: You've been exposed to the basic patterns of bal-swing, but now it's time to polish and perfect these foundational moves. We'll quickly go through each pattern from the ground up, pointing out picky technique points and common pitfalls that you might have missed the first time around. 
  • 11:15 am - 12:15 pm Class 2: Getting from Point A to Point B
    Description: Increase your flow and rhythm by learning how to comfortably transition between any patterns you know with confidence and grace. We'll help you understand the principles that make some transitions fantastic and some, well... ill-advised. 
  • 12:15 pm - 1:45 pm Lunch
  • 1:45pm - 2:45 pm Class 3: Pure Bal Legos
    Description: Pure Balboa is such a beautiful and rhythmic dance, but a lot of people feel they can't dance a whole song of "just" Pure Bal. We'll teach you how to take apart your basic moves and create infinite combinations of delightful patterns. 
  • 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm Class 4: Flash and Trash
    Description: Would it really even be a Matt and Jen workshop without this topic popping up? We'll teach both leads and follows some fun and easy ways initiate upping the flash factor in any social dance.

6:00 pm - 7:00 pm ShagBoa Transitions Class with Grace Babbes and Blake Thiessen at the Clara Auditorium in Midtown Sacramento

7:30 pm - 9:00 pm Intro to ShagBoa (Collegiate Shag) with Sarah Stembridge & Josiah Keagy at Clara Auditorium

9:00pm - Midnight, Social Dance at the Clara Auditorium

  • Invitational Smackdown Competition
  • Join us afterward for a no-host wrap party and sundaes at The Original Mels Diner on J St. in Sacramento from midnight to 1:30am
