ShagBoa Invitational Mix and Match Smackdown

Rules:

  1. This competition is for Collegiate Shag and Balboa Dancers.

  2. All rounds will be sequential

  3. Every round is Battle Spotlights and Elimination

  4. All round will be judged by head instructors Amanda Pincock, Ryan Martin, Jennifer Barnett, Matt Mitchell, and Johnny Ochoa except the second round, which will be judged by 1 shag instructor and 1 balboa instructor.

  5. First round will be a Mix and Match based on Divisions (Collegiate Shag vs Balboa), partners will be chosen randomly, Battle Spotlights: 16/8s first run, 8/8s second run, followed by an all skate to the remainder of the song. Judges will vote to move one couple into the semi-finals and the other couple will get into the second opportunity round.

  6. Second round will be second opportunity battle. This round will be between the competitors who did not make it to the semi-finals. Competitors will be randomly assorted into couples. Each couple will get a spotlight. The winning couple of the battle will move on with the Invitational Mix and Match. 

  7. Spotlights: 12/8s run, followed by an all skate to the remainder of the song. Judges will vote to move one couple onto the semi-finals.

  8. Third Round or Semi-Finals will be a mix and match based on remaining dancers from the first and second round.

  9. Battle Spotlights: 16/8s first run, 8/8s second run, followed by an all skate to the remainder of the song, Judges will vote to move two couples into the Final round.

  10. Final round will be another mix and match based on remaining partners.

  11. Battle Spotlights: first run 16/8, second run 8/8, followed by an all skate to the remainder of the song.

Endurance Competition

RULES:

  1. Couples will dance Collegiate Shag, Balboa, or a combination thereof (ShagBoa). The song will start around 190 bpm and will continue to increase in tempo until only one couple is left DANCING.

  2. Judges will tap you out in case you or your partner are losing rhythm, or dancing lazy!

  3. It’s free to compete, you do not have to sign up. We want everybody to join in on all the fun and do this competition!

Amy’s Late Night

Underground Shag Mix and Match

Saturday Late Night at 1:30ish am

Shag Underground is a Mix and Match competition designed to promote the dance and deepen ties within the community.

  1. There will be 3 prelim songs switching partners between each song.

  2. During the third song judges will tap in finalists, please keep dancing until the song ends as it is rude to walk off on your partner and another judge may be looking at them.

  3. Finalists will draw partners and the format will be all skate, spotlight, fast all skate.

  4. Finalists are audience judged using a decibel meter.

  5. Invitational dancers are kindly asked to not dance in this contest.

  6. Sign-ups will be at Late Night
